*  Walk through the eco-house complete with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry and utility rooms.

*  Gather information about Energy Star® windows, appliances, sustainable and recycled countertops, cabinetry, finishes and flooring as well as earth-friendly building supplies.

*  Check out the eco-landscaping, complete with a functioning rain garden, porous pavers, native plants and rain barrel. Watch “rain” fall from the roof of the eco-house.

Great Green Buildings

The highlight of the Green Buildings exhibit is a cut-away eco-house located in the center of the Eco Experience. Walk through the 900 square foot home and see energy effecient Schuco windows, dual-flush toilet, geothermal heating and
cooling, and finishes made from recycled and reclaimed products.  The home features
structurally insulated panels that provide cost-effective energy efficiency.

After the fair, the home will be disassembled so that it can be reused, not landfilled.

All buildings in the United States consume 2/3 of energy, 12 percent of all potable water and contribute to 30 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions.

About the Eco Experience

at the Minnesota State Fair

A first of its kind, the Eco Experience is an indoor green space with lush rain gardens, an eco home,
live entertainment, and cutting-edge displays on renewable energy, new fuels and vehicles, and organic farming. Perfect for do-it-yourselfers, techies, gardeners and nature-lovers, the space features a children's area with fun for kids of all ages.

The Eco Experience is presented by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, helping Minnesotans protect the environment since 1967.

The Eco Experience is located in the Progress Center building at the corner of Cooper Street and
Randall Avenue on the State Fairgrounds. The Minnesota State Fair runs Thursday, Aug. 24 through Labor Day, Sept. 4, 2006.
